A hands-on workshop where participants build a hardcover book from scratch, learning traditional stitching and casing-in techniques. No experience needed.
Discover the centuries-old craft of bookbinding in this hands-on workshop. Students will learn to construct their own blank hardcover books from scratch — measuring, cutting, and folding, sewing bindings by hand, and creating cases finished in your choice of leather or cloth. You'll leave with a one-of-a-kind journal, sketchbook, or keepsake album built entirely by your own hands.
In addition to building books from the ground up, students can learn the rebinding technique of casing in — giving a beloved but worn paperback a brand-new, durable hardcover. This is a wonderful way to give new life to a favorite novel, an out-of-print title, or a book with sentimental value.
No prior bookbinding experience is necessary. All materials and tools will be provided, and students will leave with tangible, functional pieces they made themselves.
