WHAT TO EXPECT
Curated by our resident film nerds: Each month brings a carefully selected gem from the world of cinema's hidden corners. Think surrealist masterpieces, haunting silent films with live musical accompaniment, and underground treasures that challenge perspectives and expand minds.
The evening unfolds as more than just a screening. Arrive early for pre-film discussions where our curators share insights and context. After the credits roll, dive deeper into post-screening conversations that explore themes, techniques, and the lasting impact of these remarkable works.
Of course, no proper film night is complete without snacks and sips to fuel the experience and discussions.
ABOUT THIS FILM
How to Build a Time Machine / Director: Jay Cheel
It took Canadian filmmaker Jay Cheel five years to complete “How To Build A Time Machine.”
Cheel, a science fiction aficionado tells the story of two men, theoretical physicist, Dr. Ronald Mallett (U. of Connecticut Faculty, author), and film animator Rob Niosi as they both look into not only the theory of time travel but also the possibility of achieving it.
While Niosi painstakingly builds a full size replica of the machine prop seen in the 1960 film adaptation of H.G. Well’s time machine, Dr. Mallet’s entire career has been dedicated to making time travel a reality by exploring its theoretical possibilities. Both men are inspired by the memories of their fathers who planted the seeds of their limitless imaginations.
Cheel portrays them with the deserved love and respect for their work in this gentle and heart warming award winning documentary.
Also, we will present at least one “surprise” short film will precede the feature!
We look forward to seeing you at AND Film Club!
